Deadpool 3 goes on floors amid writer's strike...

Hollywood Writer's Strike back

Deadpool 3, the much-awaited sequel to the hit superhero comedy franchise, has finally begun shooting amid the ongoing writers' strike. The news was confirmed by Stefan Kapicic, who plays Colossus in the films, on his Instagram story. He shared a fan-made poster of Deadpool 3 featuring various characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and wrote "Deadpool 3 has started production today."

The film stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular anti-hero and Hugh Jackman as his frenemy Wolverine. The film is expected to be a crossover between the Deadpool universe and the MCU, as Disney acquired Fox's assets in 2019. The film will also mark the return of Morena Baccarin, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Leslie Uggams and Karan Soni as their respective characters from the previous films.

The film is directed by David Leitch, who helmed Deadpool 2 and also worked with Reynolds on Hobbs & Shaw. The script is written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who penned the first two Deadpool films, along with Drew Goddard, who co-wrote The Cabin in the Woods and The Martian.

However, the film's production has been affected by the ongoing strike of the Writers Guild of America (WGA), which represents thousands of screenwriters in Hollywood. The WGA is demanding better pay and working conditions from the major studios and streaming services and has asked its members to stop working on new projects until a new deal is reached.

This has led to some fans reminding Reynolds and Jackman of how their previous collaboration, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, suffered from a similar situation in 2009. The film, which was a prequel to the X-Men franchise and focused on Wolverine's origins, was widely panned by critics and fans alike for its poor script, CGI, and characterization of Deadpool. The film was also affected by the 2007-2008 writers' strike, which resulted in a rushed production and reshoots.

Some fans took to Twitter to express their concern and hope that Deadpool 3 does not repeat the same mistakes as X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Here are some of their tweets:

@DeadpoolFan: "I hope Deadpool 3 doesn't suck like X-Men Origins: Wolverine did because of the writer's strike. That movie was an insult to Deadpool fans everywhere."

@WolverineLover: "Please don't let Deadpool 3 be another X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That movie ruined Wolverine's backstory and made Deadpool look like a joke."

@MarvelFan: "I'm excited for Deadpool 3 but I'm also worried about the writer's strike. Remember what happened to X-Men Origins: Wolverine? That movie was a disaster."

@RyanReynoldsFan: "I trust Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman to make Deadpool 3 awesome despite the writer's strike. They know how bad X-Men Origins: Wolverine was and they won't let that happen again."

@HughJackmanFan: "I'm glad Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 but I hope they don't mess it up like they did with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That movie was a travesty."

Deadpool 3 is slated to release on September 6, 2024.
